Ethereum: Wallet passphrase uniqueness (noob question)

Ethereum: UNIQUENESS PASSFRASE WALLS – NOOB on question

As you probably know, creating and management of your own cryptocurrency wallet is an essential step in securing your assets. Recently, I have created a new Ethereum wallet using mycelium platform. To ensure that my private keys would remain safe, I decided to use a unique Passfrase as a backup password.

However, when trying to create a bitcoin wallet on mycelia that matches the same setting, I was surprised to find that the generated address of the wallet and the bitcoin wallet seems to refer to the 11-word phrase instead of the only word I chose For this mycelium wallet. This curiously – what is happening behind the scenes?

Understanding Passfrase Generation

In Ethereum wallets, it serves as a unique identifier that allows you to restore your wallet and access your funds if necessary. When creating a new Bitcoin wallet on Mycelia, the system seems to generate a password using a complex algorithm based on the selected Passfrase.

Here is a simplified distribution of the Passfrase generation process:

1.

  • Hashing and encryption : The coded chain is then turned with a cryptographic Hash function (eg SHA-256) to create a fixed-size output.

3

Twist

Now there is interesting things. When the mycelium generates a bitcoin wallet based on the same passage phrase, it seems to use the entire chain coded by the base64 as one address without mentioning a particular word or phrase. This means that if I try to create a new bitcoin wallet using the original Passfrase, it will generate a different wallet address than I chose.

Verdict

Although this may seem like less inconvenience, it is necessary to understand the consequences of this behavior. If you choose a unique and inconspicuous passage phrase for your Ethereum wallet, the Mycelium puzzle processing process should create the expected 12-word phrase for regeneration (or Mnemonic). However, if you reuse the same Passfrase or use an easily guessable password, your Bitcoin wallet will be vulnerable to unauthorized access.

Recommendations

To avoid this problem in the future:

  • Choose a unique and inconceivable passage phrase for your ethereum and bitcoin wallets.

  • Use a safe password manager to generate and store phrases (or mimon).

  • Consider the use of two -factor authentication or other other safety measures to protect your digital assets.

By taking these security measures, you can ensure the long -term safety of your cryptomenic assets.
